NO BRAIN. NO BLOOD. NO NERVOUS SYSTEM. BUT WHAT A TEAM!
String jelly fish bind together to form chains of more than 30 metres long to wipe out their prey. They have no brain, no blood, and no nervous system.
When the string jelly fish comes across a fish the string attaches itself to the skin of the fish and as the fish struggles, more and more jelly fish attach to it. The fish is overwhelmed by the whole colony which clings to its body, working together to achieve their goal.
The jelly fish act together for a common goal. And yet these creatures have no brain, no blood, and no nervous system.
If these brainless and bloodless creatures can work together as a team then what excuse do any of us have for a lack of effective teamwork in our organisation.
TEAMWORK IS ESSENTIAL TO FORM NEW IDEAS AND EXECUTE THEM INTO REALITY
Teamwork is essential as this is where innovation and creativity begins. We must work together as a team to innovate; to form ideas, create a blue-print for success, and then excecute that blue-print.
Some years back I remember reading an interview with Gerard Fetlow, the former CEO of Shell Chemicals UK. He was responsible for 5,000 people in that organisation. He said that he didn’t know as much as the other 4,999 people in the organisation. He took the view that it is important to have the input of all people, with communication being key. Crucially, success in business is about effective teamwork with everyone making a contribution and being valued.
Getting a good team spirit is all about good communication; getting the right environment, the right skills, and making the most of people’s personalities, aptitudes, and attitudes.
